Wicked Becomes 20th Longest-Running Show. Wicked became the 20th longest-running show in Broadway history when it played its 2,535th performance on Tuesday! It bumped out
Avenue Q, which previously held that position.
Plans continue for In the Heights film. It was announced Tuesday that Kenny Ortega, who has directed the “High School Musical” films and choreographed my personal favorite movie of ALL TIME, “Newsies,” will direct the film version of the Tony Award-winning musical
In the Heights. It was also confirmed that writer/songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda will reprise his role as Usnavi, the narrator-hero of the story.
More TONYs News. This week it was announced that because the Tony Awards has retired the Special Theatrical Event category, dance extravaganza
Burn the Floor will be eligible in the Best Musical category, while the solo Carrie Fisher evening,
Wishful Drinking, will be eligible in the Best Play category.
League and Broadway Service Workers avoid strike. It was rumored this week that had the Broadway house staff union and the League not reached an agreement on recent contract negotiations, Broadway could have been facing another stagehand strike. It was reported today, however, that The Broadway League and the Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ - which includes porters, cleaners, and bathroom attendants at over 12 Broadway theaters - have reached a tentative 3-year contract agreement after several weeks of negotiation.
